Rijumani Kachari
“Ostracized by society she erased social stigma to become self-reliant”
Tons of difficulties were faced by Rijumani, a divorcee of Palcha village of Goalpara district. It was very difficult to earn her living to feed her mother and sole daughter. What were not done by Rijumani to manage her family- weaving, spinning, daily waging, etc? Life became a curse for her. Just at then a ray of hope flashed her- somehow she heard about a new intervention started by Grameen Sahara with the support of APPL Foundation for the promotion of Spices- Black Pepper and Turmeric. She approached the local field worker Sabita and expressed her willingness to set up an RMP-a nursery for multiplication of Black Pepper saplings. Sabita arranged everything for her- trainings and other necessary handholding supports under this initiative. Now Rijumani has the RMP- the source of her income from which she is earning money by selling the saplings to farmers. Now she becomes stable in maintaining her family.
