This programme was an initiative started by Tata Tea Limited in 1990, with technical assistance from Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat & Block Extension Officers of different districts. The intention behind launching this initiative was to aid villagers and local communities living adjacent to our tea estates with means of income supplementation.

Hathikuli Tea Estate is situated between the World Heritage Site of Kaziranga National Park and the Karbi Anglong Hills. The fundamental objective of the conversion to organic was to maintain the ecological balance of a biodiversity hot spot and prevent any further environmental degradation in the areas adjoining the World Heritage Site.

In-keeping with our mission to create impactful change within communities, APPL Foundation undertakes work to empower the communities with health and safety, to bring about this change. A serious issue faced by local communities in North East is trafficking and abuse.
A DLC Centre was set up at Lattakoojan Tea Estate, Golaghat, in collaboration with IRDIS (The Institute of Research and Documentation of Indigenous Studies) a non-profit organisation, and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in May 2014, with the objective of disseminating basic computer knowledge within the tea community.
