TATA Volunteering Week – Eye Screening Camp
An ‘Eye Screening Camp’ was organized at Nowera Nuddy Tea Estate on 4th October 2015 in collaboration with Greater Lions Eye Hospital, Siliguri. This initiative was a part of TATA Volunteering Week – 4 which is being observed at the estate. The camp was conducted by Dr. S. Paul, Eye Specialist and his team with the help of Estate Medical and Para medical team.
The promotion for this camp was done to a wide extent by means of passing the information through meetings and publicity among the residents of the estate as well as our neighboring villages. The camp was attended by more than 200 patients from within the estate and nearby villages who had various medical conditions with their eyes and had found this free camp as a blessing in disguise to free them from their trouble. Around 32 cases of cataract was reported during the screening and 70 cases were referred to Lions Club of Mal for further investigation while 3 patients were advised for surgery due to eye related complications. Out of the reported 32 cases, 27 cataract patients were taken to Greater Lions Eye Hospital, Siliguri on the same day for cataract operation.
The joy on the faces of the residents of the estate as well as neighboring villages could be seen as they were elated and eager to avail the benefit from this camp.
