USAID AT NAHARKATIA TEA GARDEN HOSPITAL

SAATHI has successfully partnered with APPL Foundation in improving maternal and child care at the tea garden hospitals. To access the impact of the project Sambhuyan USAID team visited Naharkatia tea garden hospital in December’18. Members of USAID along with SAATHI team observed the labour room and skills practice of staff. They participated in the Hospital Management Committee meeting and community interventions.

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE PROGRAMME

Indian Tea Association (ITA) has sponsored the setup of two sanitary napkin machines at Namroop and Borjan Tea Estates. Two groups of women have been trained to produce sanitary napkins. Quality sanitary napkins at affordable costs have been distributed among the women of the gardens along with menstrual hygiene awareness campaigns. This has positively impacted the women who are now practicing hygiene during their menstrual cycle. Sales of 7000 sanitary napkins within a short span of time has enthused the programme.

A SPECIAL MEDICAL CAMP IN COLLABORATION WITH RCFC

A medical camp for early identification of children with orthopedic disability and cerebral palsy was organized at Damdim Tea Estate in Dooars, West Bengal. Children from the Tea Estates of Damdim, Rungamutte and neighboring villages benefited from the screening programme.

The camp was organized under the expert guidance of representatives from Rehabilitation Centre for Children (RCFC), Kolkata. APPL Foundation and APPL provided the necessary support to make this screening camp successful.

Indian Chambers of Commerce (ICC) conducted a novel initiative of bringing together Corporates and Non-Government Organizations (NGO) who are committed to create an impact through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes. The Social Impact Awards selected over 40 Corporates and NGO’s to share innovative programmes being implemented in 10 different categories.

Dr. D R Das, Advisor (North East) to Ministry of New and Renewed Energy (MNRE) visited the APPITI, Rowta centre. He congratulated the centre for installing solar structure and utilizing solar power. Mr. Rituraj Phukan’s dream was conceived when he was invited by Sir Robert Swan, O.B.E., to represent India as an official team member on the Climate Force Arctic Expedition 2019. The programme holds the opportunity of equipping leaders with resources and actionable solutions to become a part of a global force of change. We were delighted to support Mr. Rituraj become the first civilian and only the 3rd person from Assam to be at the Antarctic.
